How to point to a different license server?

The article deals with the issue of how to point a workstation to a different license server. Every workstation/client that uses a client-server license points, via its license file, to the corresponding license server. This file can be modified or copied from the relevant new license server, so that each workstation/client uses a reference to this license server.
Solution

The workstation/client uses the license file STAT.lic, which contains information about which license server it uses. It is a plain text file that can be easily modified. Another solution, described later in the text, can be the ClientSTAT.tmp, which can be moved and renamed on each workstation/client station.

Solution 1: modifying the stat.lic file

1. On the workstation/client station, locate the relevant STAT.lic file. A typical location is:

C:Program FilesDellStatistica <version #>
C:Program FilesStatSoftStatistica <<version #>
C:Program FilesStatisticaStatistica <version #> (starting with version 13.3.0)
C:Program Files (x86)D***Statistica <version #> (32-bit installation)
C:Program Files (x86)StatSoftStatistica <version #> (32-bit installation)
C:Program Files (x86)StatisticaStatistica <version#> (32-bit installation) (starting with version 13.3.0)

2. In a text editor (e.g. Notepad), open the file STAT.lic.
3. Change the server’s name and MAC address so that the details point to the new license server.

4. Save the modified file.

Note: Usually the STAT.lic file cannot be changed directly in the relevant installation directory, so it is recommended to copy the STAT.lic file and save it, e.g. to a temporary directory,
back up the original STAT.lic file (or rename it, e.g. _backup.stat.lic). We then place the copied and modified file from the temporary directory in place of the original STAT.lic.

Solution 2: the ClientSTAT.tmp file

The ClientSTAT.tmp file on the license server contains the same information as the corresponding license file on the workstation/client station.

1. On the license server, locate the FLEXlm folder. A typical location is:

C:Program Files (x86)D***
C:Program Files (x86)StatSoft
C:Program Files (x86)Statistica

2. Copy ClientSTAT.tmp to each workstation/client station.
3. Place the copied ClientSTAT.tmp file in the directory where Statistica <version number> is installed and where the original STAT.lic file is located.
4. On the workstation/client station, delete the file STAT.lic.
5. On the workstation/client station, rename the just-copied file ClientSTAT.tmp to a file named STAT.lic.

Now the workstation/client station will point to the new (changed) license server.
